Navratri Day 6 Maa Katyayani

Navratri Day 6 - Maa Katyayani

Navratri is a special occasion, a time for new beginnings and offering your dedication and reverence to the Goddess Shakti. The sixth day of Navratri is celebrated to worship the manifestation of Goddess Durga known as Katyayani. Maa Katyayani has 3 eyes and 4 hands. She holds a sword in one of her left hand and a lotus in another. The other 2 hands respectively show protecting and allowing actions. If you make vow of fasting and worshipping her, she would bless the girl with the husband she wishes and prays for. If a girl's marriage is getting delayed or obstructed due to some circumstances , she may worship Maa Katyayani to remove obstacles that may be causing delays in her marriage.

The story of Maa Katyayani - The legend says that once there was a great sage named Katya. It was his soulful wish that Maa Durga be born as his daughter. He practiced austere penance for several years to please all Gods. The trinity of Gods – Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh - got enraged and they created Goddess Durga, who was an end result of the abilities of all deities. Since she was born to Katya, she was called Devi Katyayani.

As per Tantra spiritual practice, Maa Katyayani is the goddess of the Ājñā Chakra (Agya Chakra). In yogic metaphysics, the third eye or Ājñā chakra, is the center where we transcend duality – the duality of a personal "I" separate from the rest of the world, of a personality that exists independently from everything else. Ajna (Agya) means command, knowledge and wisdom. a yogi who has passed through the Vishuddha Chakra at the throat to the Ajna Chakra transcends the five elements and becomes freed (mukta) from the bondage of time bound consciousness. This is where the I-consciousness is absorbed into super consciousness. Ajna chakra is the location of the third eye which is the conscience. The two physical eyes see the past and the present, while the third eye reveals the insight of the future. The seed syllable is Aum, or "Pranava Om", the supreme sound.
